Pub Risk Assessment — Done in 2 Minutes
Describe your pub operations. We generate a UK-compliant risk assessment instantly.

🍺 Cellar safety is the most overlooked risk in pub operations. CO2 and mixed gas used for beer dispense can reach dangerous concentrations in poorly ventilated cellars. Anyrisks includes specific cellar gas controls in every pub assessment.
The Legal Framework for Pubs & Licensed Premises
The Licensing Act 2003 requires all premises licence holders to promote four licensing objectives: prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance, and protection of children from harm. Every premises licence condition relating to public safety — crowd capacity limits, CCTV, security staff, drug awareness, and emergency procedures — is effectively a mandated risk control. The Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) named on the licence is responsible for the day-to-day management of licensable activities and ensuring compliance with licence conditions. Risk assessments demonstrating how each condition is met are a key part of any licence review hearing.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (Regulation 3) require pub operators to conduct a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for all work activities, including bar operations, cellar management, kitchen work, and security. As an employer (or self-employed operator with staff), the legal duty to document and implement risk assessments cannot be delegated away.
For live music, events, and late-night operations, the Noise Act 1996 and local authority licensing conditions set noise level thresholds for amplified music. Exceeding these can result in licence review or revocation. Risk assessments for events involving live music should reference the relevant noise levels and the measures in place (sound limiters, monitoring, crowd management).
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO 2005) requires the responsible person (the premises licence holder or DPS in practice) to conduct a fire risk assessment for the licensed premises. For food operations, the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 require food safety management based on HACCP principles — which dovetail with the risk assessment process for kitchen and service areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this cover cellar gas (CO2 and mixed gas) risks?
Yes. Cellar gas hazards are specifically included for every pub assessment. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and mixed gas (CO2/nitrogen) used for beer dispense can reach lethal concentrations in poorly ventilated cellars within minutes of a leak. The assessment covers ventilation requirements, gas detection (fixed and portable), emergency procedures, and the HSE guidance on cellar safety.
Does it cover Licensing Act 2003 conditions and DPS obligations?
Yes. The Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) named on the premises licence is responsible for day-to-day compliance with licence conditions. Anyrisks’ pub assessments cover public safety licence conditions: capacity management, CCTV, Challenge 25, security staff, drug searches, and emergency evacuation — all of which are relevant to licence review hearings.
Does it cover the Noise Act and live music operations?
Yes. For pubs running live music, quiz nights, or amplified events, Anyrisks includes noise controls referencing the Noise Act 1996 and local authority licence conditions: sound limiter use, monitoring, management of outdoor noise, and crowd management for late-night events.
Does it cover food safety for pub kitchens?
Yes. For pubs serving food, the assessment covers kitchen hazards under the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013, including HACCP principles, allergen management under Natasha’s Law (PPDS regulations from October 2021), and personal hygiene.
We run regular live music and quiz nights — are events covered?
Yes. Mention the type and scale of events — live band, quiz, sports screenings, beer garden events — and Anyrisks includes crowd management, temporary structure checks, noise controls, and security arrangements specific to each type of event.
How long does it take?
Under 2 minutes. Describe your pub — bar, cellar, kitchen, events, staffing — and Anyrisks produces a complete, legally-referenced pub risk assessment. £29, no subscription.
